Headlice/nits?

The first time I ever found nits in my sons hair I also found an insect thing about the size of a flying ant, I flicked it out, I was out shopping at the time and marched him straight to Boots but the people in Boots couldn't tell me what it was but talking to other Mothers they also said they had found these insects in their kids hair when they first found nits.
